Happy New Year! Lots of Engagements!

Happy New Year, friends! Our business has been growing and we have been truly blessed with amazing, fun, beautiful portrait and wedding clients. This year we road-tripped all over California to photograph gorgeous weddings and have adventures, fell in love with stand up paddle boarding, kayaked in La Jolla, camped in Big Sur, had some special visitors, celebrated my grandmother’s 90th birthday in Oregon, watched dolphins in Santa Barbara and sea lions in Malibu, adopted a PUPPY, celebrated our second wedding anniversary at Big Bear Lake, and ended the year by volunteering together in Haiti (Haiti photos coming soon!). Of course the year had ups and downs and struggles like any other, but 2013 was full and beautiful, and I know 2014 will be too! Thank you all for being a part of our journey and allowing us to be a part of yours.

Life has been too full the past two months  for me to blog (eek!) so I thought I’d start off by sharing a few recent engagement portraits of some of our amaaazing 2014 couples! We love doing engagement portraits. We actually include them with all of our wedding collections because we think its such a valuable time for us all to get to know each other. For the couple to become comfortable in front of the camera. To create beautiful, tangible memories of this short and beautiful and exciting time in life!

happy new year! a snowy personal post

Happy New Year! We hope that your year is off to a beautiful start! To celebrate the Holidays we drove up to a very snowy Oregon  to see my family, and then Paul flew to DC to see his family. We both flew home to Santa Barbara just in time to reunite for New Year’s Eve.

2012 was a pretty huge year for us! As newlyweds, we spent six months volunteering at an orphanage in Thailand. Its hard to believe that last New Year’s Eve we were out camping in the jungle; it seemed like a different world. We returned to the states in the spring as planned. After much preparation, we moved to the sunshine state in the summer and started this new business together! When we moved to Santa Barbara, we didn’t know a single person. Its only been six months since we made Santa Barbara our home, but we already have some amazing clients, some wonderful colleagues and some great new friends. There is so much beauty in this ocean-side community. We are so thankful for all of you (both near and far) and we feel so blessed!

2013 is going to be beautiful! This year we will be settling more into our new home and working hard developing our business. We will be photographing some amazing couples, weddings, and families on both coasts. We will be learning and improving and growing as creative professionals and entrepreneurs. We will be laughing, loving, reading, playing, exploring, and volunteering. In August we will celebrate our second wedding anniversary! This year we are not newlyweds living in a foreign country, but I know it will be a year completely full of beautiful change and crazy adventure.

Lets all make this a beautiful year! How are you spending this first weekend of 2013? I hope you enjoy these lovely white christmas photos. Paul took these in Oregon while I was bundled up inside!

Bridal Premiere event

Last Sunday we had the honor of sharing our work at the Bridal Premiere event in Westlake Village. It was really fun for us to meet so many happy, newly engaged couples! It was also really nice to meet other creative teams and professionals in the area. The Premiere has been helping brides plan their weddings for almost 30 years and it seems like a great way for us to network here in Southern California. This was our very first time exhibiting in a bridal show!  We will be part of the Santa Barbara Bridal Expo in a couple of weeks as well, and I think we’ll participate in the Bridal Premiere again in January.

Here is our display, complete with gift bags for every bride, framed stationery suites, canvas gallery wrap prints, candy, guest forms, a custom designed wedding album, a slideshow, lace, and a few cute knickknacks. What do you think? We’re open to suggestions and ideas!

Here are some pretty details displayed by a few of the other creative professionals! These lovely gowns are from Kay’s Bridal.

Candace from Magpie Event Co specializes in pretty candy and dessert tables. She is so sweet and I’m sure she would be amazing to work with. “Love is in the Air” note from the great Epic Stems display.

Marshmallow treats and cake by A Little Piece of Heaven I believe.

Some eye candy from the ladies at Pretty Vintage Table.

One more photo of Paul in front of the Paul & Jewel Studios display (and our nice neighbors at Bed Bath & Beyond). We’re about to order a big logo banner for our next show! Let us know what you think. I hope you’re having a great week! Love and peace.

Pinterest fun

Ok, this whole pinterest thing is really addicting! We’re (finally) hooked. I have a feeling I’ll be wasting even more time in front of the computer screen now, but you never know how far a little inspiration can take you. We’ve added a board of our own work, but the best part is finding inspiration through the work of other amazing photographers and designers. We’ve also started a couple of boards, “Things Paul Likes” and “Things Jewel Likes” so you can see some of our personal interests and get to know us a little better. If you’re a pinterest addict, we’d love to see whats inspiring you! Also, you can now pin photos from our blog (by clicking the grey “P” icon at the bottom of each blogpost)! Happy pinning and happy weekend!
